The Chronicles of Akin: The Mayhem (4)

The Chronicles of Akin

Akin, who was a member of the Man-o-war back right from secondary school up to the university knew what was coming. He stepped backward to balance himself and get ready for whatever was coming. He wanted to show his capability. Within a twinkle of an eye, everything turned to chaos and He started punching. He knew he was unbeatable – at least not by these kids who know nothing about boxing or karate. He did well in his Taekwondo and Karate classes. So he used that to his advantage. The boys were surprised to see him fight like that.
They couldn’t believe that one person can fight off all eight of them. Suddenly, the boys fled and retreated. Akin was relieved; he thought it was over and was bending down to pick his put on his shoes, he saw the boys coming back with wood and cutlasses. Akin knew this has turned to something else. He can handle knife combat – but only in one-on-one fight and not this type of fight. Moreover, this is more than knife... this is sword fight! He then said to himself ‘A soldier dies only once; let’s give this whatever it takes.’ He got himself ready and warned them not to come any closer. The boys stopped. Tanjigo instructed three of them to go meet Akin. Two persons holding wood, one person holding cutlass. Akin thought, ‘this is better... I will go for the one with the cutlass first and collect his cutlass and scare them aware.’ Suddenly, Akin rushed towards the guy with cutlass. He gave him rain of blows and they both started struggling with the cutlass. Meanwhile, the other two boys with woods started hitting Akin from the back. With anger, Akin snapped off the cutlass from the boy and simultaneously swung it backwards to wade off the other two boys... Suddenly, he heard a loud scream; ‘Yeeeeee! O ti pa mi oooo! My hand oooo!’ Everything stood still. Akin looked back and saw blood gushing out of one of the boys’ hand. The other boys fled on seeing the blood. Akin could not believe his eyes. This was the first time he would ever be involved in fight that led to wounding someone not to talk of him wounding someone. He look at the cutlass in his hand and saw blood on it. He knew had had wounded the boy when he swung back the cutlass. He dropped it and bent down to examine the wounded boy. The boy was crying.  The boy’s right wrist has been cut off from his arm. The wrist was held dangling by small flesh of the skin and blood was gushing out. Akin could not run away. He bent down to help the boy stop the bleeding so that he won’t bleed to death. Akin carried him and rushed to the main street to get a commercial motorcyclist to help the boy get to the hospital.

It was around 6:45pm before Akin got back to his home. He washed himself and reached for his pocket – and then he found out that his wallet was missing. ‘Damn it!’ he hit the wall with a earth-shaking blow. He thought he had finally escaped the incidence. He gave a false information down at the hospital. He quickly rushed out of the house with his torch light down to the scene. He searched everywhere but could not find the missing wallet. The wallet contains all his information as well as his picture. He was really angry and bitter about it. He left the scene and returned home. He has lost the money Shola gave him and now, he’s really hungry. He went out to his neighbour selling bread and other food stuffs. He bought bread and margarine on credit. He ate it and slept. (to be continued...)
