The receptionist directed them to sit down and wait for their turn. After fifteen minutes, Shola was already checking his wrist watch. He was already late for work but he had to help his friend. Then it soon came to their turn and they entered the MD’s office.

‘Hey! Showley! How’re you doing my guy?’ the voice came from a skimpy young man sitting behind a table filled with very many files and documents. A Laptop computer neatly placed right in his front. He had on a blue suit with black tie. He looks so young and appear the same age as Akin and Shola. That’s Kolawole Adeshina – another friend of Shola. ‘And this must be Mr. Akinola Enimoo’ he continued looking towards Akin and at same time stretching out his hand for a hand shake. ‘I’ve heard much about you.’ He concluded. ‘Thank you’ Akin replied. He consciously cautioned himself not to add “sir”. He knew they must be of the same age range. They both sat down as he motioned them to sit. Kola continued ‘So, have you been briefed about what we are doing here?’ ‘I learnt that I will be applying for the post of sales manager’ replied Akin. ‘Well, this is how it works, we will give you our products and you will help us market it. You get 10% commission on every item sold.’ ‘what of salary?’ Akin asked. ‘There’s nothing of such’ he replied. ‘The more you sell, the more you earn’ he added. ‘And from what your friend told me about you, I’m pretty sure you’ll make big sales!’ Kola concluded. Akin nodded his head.

The place went in silence for some minutes. Shola who seems not to like the conversation broke the silence. ‘So ooo...’ ‘I will think over it’ Akin cut him short. He knew that he was going to ask whether he is in or out. Kola said, ‘okay, no problem. We’ll be looking forward to hearing from you.’ They thanked him and left.
Back in the car, Shola told Akin that he will need to rush down to his workplace at Ikeja as was already late to work. He checked the time; it was already few minutes past 10. Akin said no problem. Shola gave him five hundred naira note for his transport fare. As Akin alighted from the car, Shola called him back and handed him additional one thousand five hundred naira. ‘Pocket this. I will call you.’ ‘Okay’ Akin replied and walked away. (to be continued...)
