The Last Hurdle

"Success comes not by wishes, but by hard work" This quotes has been my watchword for quite a long time. Being in university is fun and equally challenging. It's been five years now and I am finally getting towards the end of my undergraduate program - B.Tech (Bio) in view. That means I will soon become a certified Biologist.

Of course, it has been a very beautiful experience; yet challenging and tasking. Life in campus is not easy especially when you come from a financially handicapped family. You have to hustle out your way to survival. You keep pushing forward very hard. There is fine thing that keeps you going - determination. For me, there is something much more than that - prayer. It has been keeping me uphold.

When I entered the university in the year 2011, I was happy and I thanked God for giving me the grace - because there were very many more people who wanted admission into institutions of higher learning but they never got the grace. So, I prepared my mind for the challenges. I already know my financial background and I had a lot of plans, objectives and determinations. My primary objective was to make it to First class honor... well, life is not always has planned. My secondary objective was to find a way of surviving - because I knew that my financial background is very poor, so I had to find a way of surviving. So, in my first year on campus, I searched for job.. unfortunately, I couldn't find a job that will give me flexibility with my studies. After two months on campus, I was able to get job at a business center as Graphics designer and trainer where I was collecting N3,000 per month. Although it was tough, but i held on.

The second challenge was to achieve my primary goals which is to make it to first class. I managed to combine work with learning and during the first semester's examination, i did my best. When the results came out, it was below my expectations becuase I couldn't make it to first class (My Semesterial GP was 3.67). But I was happy because I was determined to make it in the second semester.

During the beginning of the second semester of my first year, I saw a public announcement inviting interested students to join the University's Campus Radio. I picked up the form and afternthe audition, I received a text message informing me that I made it! I was happy and I became part of the campus radio crew member.

Over the years on campus, I faced a lot of challenges and obstacles. Very many times, I got broke - there was no money to get course materials."Success comes not by wishes, but by hard work" This quotes has been my watchword for quite a long time. I have made a lot of friends and I have learned a lot of things (apart from academics). I have learned to never give up. I remember a friend telling me that challenges and obstacles are part of ingredients to success. The same friend also told me that I should not allow my problem to create more problems for me by allowing it to take me down.

Now... here I am... preparing for the final year examination. I am looking forward to moving on to the next phase of life. To go out there and face the real life situations...

The struggle continues...

I have made a lot of friends and I have learned a lot of things (apart from academics).
