Poem: Gluttons Within

Poem: Gluttons Within

Our Nation
Rich enough to be great
Yet drowned in the sea of poverty
It is not your fault
But of those gluttons that lie within

Our Nation
You’re blessed enough
Yet you live such a miserable life

The meat seller at the abattoir
Could not afford a pound of meat
To give his children to eat
And the builder could not house his children
So also the draper could not clothe his children
Because of the gluttons that ate up our nation

Our Nation
Blessed with minerals and oil
Yet you suffered with turmoil
Because of the glutton within

Our Nation
Rich in Agriculture
But now, farming is no longer a culture
For eating rotten dead is for the vulture

Our Nation
Blessed with silver and gold
But now you are poor and old
Down in the mud
Because of the gluttons within

Our Nation
Blessed with strength and agility
But now you are weak and lack ability
Because heart has been eaten
By the gluttons within

Our Nation
Your future has been tampered with
Because of selfishness and greed
How can one person have so much
While so many have none?

Our Nation
Wake up from your slumber
And make your children ponder
Whether to wonder or wander
And bring back healthy living in order

Our Nation
Oh poor nation
Free yourself from the gluttons
That are destroying the bright future
Of your beloved children
